SOCOM: II

U.S. NAVY SEALS

War Story

You know that map where the seals need to get into the terrorist fortress and put a bomb in their basement? I played that map as the terrorist a few times and the seals never picked up the bomb. So I would always sneak out and put a mine on the bomb. Sure enough, eventually someone would go back for it. 3 games in a row I got someone with a bomb mine. The last time I they blew up the mine with a grenade, then as they carefully walked up to the bomb I shot him. Heh...poor guys.....

Sacrifice

IDragon and non-clan teammate were escorting the hostages to the extraction zone when we saw a mine on the ground at a key point which we needed to cross to get to the extraction.  IDragon got on the mic and announced the presence of the mine and we backed up preparing to throw grenades to take out the mine.  But a moment before we threw our grenades, Phil No Payne appears.  He had circled around back and was approaching us from the other side.  Phil, never hesitating after hearing IDragon's remarks about the mine, quickly ran towards us and threw himself on the mine, detonating it so we could pass safely with the hostages (stepping on his fallen body).  Few people would be brave enough to make the sacrifice Phil did.  If given the chance, would he do it again?  Well, lets just say he watches the ground more carefully now.

What's New in Socom 2

Ok on some maps you can now select a rocket launcher instead of grenades. You get one shot with it and you can't shoot while running. It's a stop and pop deal. There are now mines
that activate when you step on them so watch out for them in doorways or near target sites. You can blow them up with a grenade. I heard you can shoot them too but they seem invincible to bullets to me.  Terrorists now can choose a silenced machine gun too. You can drop to the ground while running by pressing triangle You now have to press and hold L3 to switch firing modes or you can double tap it. Most games are friendly fire by default. You can use turrets by walking up to them and pressing X. Try zooming in on them with Digi pad Up. Some guns have built in infra red scopes (predator vision basically it looks tight).  You can now talk in briefing rooms. Little medals appear next to your name indicating how good you are compared to everyone else in socom. Ranking is determined by score.

You get points for:

  • staying alive
  • killing enemies
  • accomplishing objectives
  • and team victory
  • team victory is like 5 kills

So doing something suicidal that leads to your team winning is encouraged.
you now have a health bar
you can't take a ton of hits
but sometimes a couple
you'll get hurt if you jump from too high
but maybe survive with damage taken
there's a radio to call in air support on some maps
i haven't done it yet though
turrets provide awesome fire power
but once you start shooting from there
everyone knows you're there
easy sniper material
so unleash hell and then get out
unless you got good coverage from your team
(look for friendly names around you)

some maps you have to blow up walls and doors to reach the objective. you get C4 on those maps. if you see a team mate walk up to a wall and put something on it then walk away, don't stand next to that wall. it won't feel good, any questions?
